PURPOSE: A cruise controller for a vehicle and the method thereof allows a driver to preset the cruise controlling speed of the vehicle before starting, thereby preventing an accident due to the operation of a cruise controlling key during running. CONSTITUTION: A driver selects a cruise controlling speed by operating a cruise controlling key. Then, the speed of a vehicle is perceived. If the perceived speed is faster than the selected cruise controlling speed, the vehicle is cruise controlled according to the selected cruise controlling speed. Thus, the driver does not need to operate the cruise controlling key to select a cruise controlling mode and speed. Therefore, an accident due to the operation of the cruise controlling key is prevented.
