PURPOSE: A device for switching a bad roll gap measuring sensor is provided to determine error of a pulse generator for sensing roll gap and prevent stop of operation of a hot rolling line due to a malfunction of a sensor by automatically converting output value of the defective pulse generator into output value of a normal pulse generator. CONSTITUTION: A device for switching a bad roll gap measuring sensor includes a first switching part selecting and outputting one of a drive side roll gap sensing value or a work side roll gap sensing value calculated from a measured value of a roll gap measuring sensor as a roll gap sensing value, a second switching part for automatically converting and outputting roll gap instruction value, a third switching part for selecting and outputting roll gap feedback value calculated from the measured value of the roll gap measuring sensor, a first operating part for operating an input value from the second switching part and calculating total roll gap change amount changed by the instruction value, a second operating part for operating real total roll gap change amount from the roll gap feedback value input from the third switching part, deviation calculating parts(62,63) calculating a difference between the instructed roll gap change amount and the real roll gap change amount, error checking parts(68,69) for determining whether or not the roll gap measuring sensor is out of order, and logic parts outputting operation signal to output the roll gap feedback value of the other side as the roll gap sensing value of the corresponding side.
