PURPOSE: Provided is 3-methyl-croman or thiocroman derivative which has no agonist effect but shows great anti-estrogen activity. CONSTITUTION: 3-methyl-croman or thiocroman derivative is represented by the formula (1) wherein, X represents O or S, R1 is hydrogen or metal, and m is an integer of 2-14. The anti-estrogenic pharmaceutical composition contains an effective amount of the compound of the formula (1) and pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The composition is used as a therapeutic agent for breast cancer.
