PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a peralitic steel rail excellent in wear resistance and ductile toughness. SOLUTION: In this method for producing a pearlitic steel rail excellent in wear resistance and ductile toughness, steel containing, by weight, 0.75 to 0.84% C, 0.1 to 1% Si, 0.4 to 2.5% Mn, <=0.035% P, <=0.035% S and 0.05 to 0.5% Nb is heated to 1,100 to 1,350 deg.C and is subjected to hot rolling in such a manner that rolling finishing temperature is controlled to 850 to 1,050 deg.C to form a rail stock, and next, the head of the rail is subjected to controlled cooling to 500 deg.C or less at a cooling rate of 5 deg.C/s or less.
