PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a black mulching sheet having excellent light-shielding property to promote the growth of rice plant and prevent the proliferation of weeds, dispensing with the recovering work of the used sheet owing to the spontaneous decomposition of the sheet in water within a prescribed period, saving the labor for the farm work and preventing the proliferation of weeds when laid on a fallow paddy to facilitate the reutilization of the fallow paddy. SOLUTION: The mulching sheet is a paper produced by mixing natural pulp fiber material with respectively specific amounts of carbonaceous powder and a binder. It is wound in the form of a roll to enable the laying with a rice transplanter and is formed to be spontaneously decomposable after 50-80 days in wet state. In the case of laying on a fallow paddy, it is spontaneously decomposed after 120-160 days.
