PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low cost thermal head wherein a temperature distribution of heating resisters can be made uniform and to facilitate the making of the thermal head. SOLUTION: In the thermal head, a plurality of recessed sections 1b consisting of a plurality of striped grooves formed in a direction perpendicular to the arrangement direction of the parallel heating resistors 3 are formed beforehand on a substrate 1 at a part opposite to each of the lower faces of the heating resistors 3. As recessed sections 3a consisting of a plurality of striped grooves are formed to the heating resistors 3 along the recessed sections 1b, a thickness of each part having the recessed section 3a in the heating resistors 3 is made small so that the resistance value of the recessed section 3a becomes great. As a result, when electric power is supplied to the heating resistor 3, the current flows at the peripheral portion 36 surrounding the recessed section 3a by a flow rate greater than that at the other portion so that it is possible to raise the temperature of the peripheral portion 3b higher than that of the recessed section 3a.
