Multi-stage flash evaporator combined with a vapour Compression Plant is used to desalinate sea-water by distillation, the compressor being driven by a steam turbine from which passout steam provides the heating medium for the evaporator. Essentially, the installation comprises a secondary evaporator treating the effluent from the first evaporator. Preferably, the evaporators operating in parallel have interconnected flash cells for balanced pressure operation. It is convenient to construct these evaporators as a single unit to facilitate common temperature and pressure conditions in corresponding flash cells of the two evaporators. |
