PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cargo hoisting apparatus to rapidly and safely load and unload a cargo in a place with an upper obstacle such as a ceiling. SOLUTION: The cargo hoisting apparatus 20A comprises a long beam 3, a pair of chains 2a to hoist the beam 3, a weight 4 movably installed along the longitudinal direction of the beam 3, a chain 2b to hoist the weight 4, a cargo hoisting unit 8, a hook 9 provided on the cargo hoisting unit 8, and a wire 10. The beam 3 is provided with a block 7a and a block 7b, and the cargo hoisting unit 8 is provided with a block 7c. The wire 10 is stretched between the weight 4 and the cargo hoisting unit 8 through the blocks 7a-7C. The load of the cargo 60 to be hoisted applied to the hook 9 is applied to the weight 4 via the wire 10, and the weight 4 is moved at the position at which the distance in the horizontal direction between the hoisting center 100 of a crane and the center of gravity 61 of the cargo 60 is as constant as possible.
