摘要 PURPOSE: A message transfer method for a connection service by a PSA(Proxy Signaling Agent) in an ATM network and a message structure are provided to facilitate coping with a development in a signaling protocol by heightening a signaling function of only the PSA and an ATM switch, and provide a connection service by supporting a signaling function between the PSA and a terminal which does not support an ATM switch and signaling. CONSTITUTION: A message of the PSA includes a message type, a message length and a message parameter. The length of a message indicates a length of a message parameter which contains information to be transmitted and received between the PSA and a terminal. A PSA registration message is a message transmitted from the PSA to an ATM switch, having a data structure that the message type='0x10' and the message length='0', which the PSA informs the ATM switch of its existence. A PSA set-up request message is a message transmitted from terminals to the PSA, having a data structure of the PSA message parameter, which a terminal without a signaling function requests the signaling function from the PSA. A PSA connect-complete message is a message transmitted from the PSA to the terminals, having a data structure of a PSA message parameter, which informs the terminal that the PSA has been connected. A PSA release-request message is a message transmitted from the terminal to the PSA, having a data structure that the message type='0x02' and the message length='0', which requests release for the previously connection from the PSA. A PSA release-complete message is a message transmitted from the PSA to the terminal, having a data structure that the message type='0x04' and the message length='0', which informs the terminal that the PSA has been released from connection.
