PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling a voice signal transmission/reception state of a mobile communication terminal are provided to facilitate performing of a hands-free function by opening a transfer path and detecting a voice signal inputted from a user when a PTT key of a TRA terminal or a radio unit is once depressed, and maintaining a call state even if the PTT button is not kept depressing. CONSTITUTION: A switching unit(10) provides a switching signal to the other party for communication. A voice signal input unit(30) inputs a voice of a caller. A voice signal detecting unit(40) detects the voice signal inputted through the voice signal input unit(30). A controller(20) closes a communication path and maintains a terminal in a receiving standby state if no voice signal detect signal is inputted from the voice signal detecting unit(40) for a predetermined time after a switching signal is inputted from the switching unit(10), and maintains the communication path in a communication state or a communication standby state if the voice signal detected by the voice signal detecting unit(40) is inputted within the predetermined time regardless of whether the switching unit(10) is switched on or off after the switching signal is inputted. The switching unit(10) is a PTT key, and the voice signal input unit(30) is a microphone.
