PURPOSE: A device and a method for detecting the position of a talker is provided to be capable of accurately and rapidly detecting the positions of eyes and face of the talker from a captured image, and of being strongly resistant against image noise. CONSTITUTION: An eye position detector(10) determines areas of partial aggregation features and texture features as eye candidate areas by detecting pixels representing a strong gray feature from a captured RGB image. A face position determinator(20) forms a face template using the eye position candidate areas, and matches the face template with image data for discriminating the positions of the face and the eyes. An extracted position stabilizer(30) prevents the extracted positions of the eyes and face from being suddenly changed in the image.
