PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that the exchange of a disk in the lowermost layer is difficult since a height margin between the base of a disk device and the disk in the lowermost layer is eliminated where the disk device is made thinner or equal to a 1DIN size. SOLUTION: When MD3 in the lowermost layer is selected, a disk driving part 10 positioned below a holder 7 moves in the direction of a disk face by a saving means and it is saved in a saving area. Then, an elevating/lowering means 20 lowers the holder 7 in the direction of Z2 and it is confronted with a disk storage area in the lowermost layer. Then, the holder 7 is elevated and the disk driving part 10 is restored. Thus, the abutment of the holder 7 moved to the lowermost stage and the disk driving part 10 can be prevented. Thus, the disks can be stored in the whole height area of a casing.
