PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voltage regulator capable of improving the performance limit of a conventional circuit, using an output capacitor of small capacity by low equivalent serial resistors and realizing stable operation even when the resistance of a load is drastically changed. SOLUTION: A current proportional to a current allowed to flow into the load RL is detected by a 2nd MOS semiconductor element 17 and a control voltage generation part 18 generates control voltage from the detected current signal. The control voltage is applied to a voltage controlled resistor 14 connected between the output capacitor C and ground potential to reduce or increase the resistance of the resistor 14 in accordance with the increase/ decrease of the current allowed to flow into the load RL. Thereby a phase advance effect is attained for an optimum frequency band and the voltage regulator can be stably operated.
