The fume extraction device has a stationary part (16) for mounting on the outside or the inside of a water closet and a relatively hinged toilet seat frame (11), used for guiding air extracted from the interior of the water closet pan (10) to an extraction opening (14) provided by the stationary part, leading to a vent channel (17a,17b), coupled to the water closet drainage line. A pressure-sensitive switch (15) in the toilet seat frame can be used for controlling opening of a closure flap (3) for the vent channel and operation of an extraction fan (5) incorporated in the vent line. An Independent claim for a water closet provided with a fume extraction device is also included.
