摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a GH(guest-host) type liquid crystal display attaining a pure black display while carrying out a full color display using additive color mixing. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 is provided with a substrate 2 having plural pixel electrodes 6 arranged by being away from each other on one principal plane, a counter substrate 3 placed opposite to the plane of the substrate 2 on which the plural pixel electrodes 6 are provided and equipped with a common electrode 8 on the counter plane and a first and second liquid crystal layers 4a, 4b forming a laminated structure between the substrate 2 and the counter substrate 3. The first liquid crystal layer 4a is characterized by having plural kinds of color regions 10-1 to 10-3 with mutually different absorption wavelength regions arrayed corresponding to the plural pixel electrodes 6. Each of the plural kinds of the color regions 10-1 to 10-3 is characterized by containing liquid crystal microcapsules comprising liquid crystal compounds and a dichroic pigment and by having the liquid crystal material exhibiting a non-black color in the case of light absorption encapsulated in transparent coating films. The second liquid crystal layer 4b is characterized by containing liquid crystal compounds and a dichroic pigment and by comprising the liquid crystal material exhibiting black color in the case of light absorption.
