[Also in Division E2] An earthworking implement 10, comprises a centre section 12 and at least one side section 14 interconnected at their adjacent ends by a first hinge means 36 having a hinge axis XX which, in the working position of the implement, allows relative vertical pivoting between the sections to accommodate unevenness in the ground, and by a second hinge means 38 having a hinge axis YY which diverges from said first axis so that when the sections are tilted forwardly from their horizontal working plane, the side section can be pivoted about axes XX and YY into a transport position. The folding axis YY may be inclined to the axis XX so as to extend rearwardly, inwardly and upwardly from the foremost point of the axis XX such that when the centre section is tilted forwardly to an angle with the horizontal that is complementary to the run of the horizontal and vertical angles of inclination of axis YY from axis XX, the side section can be folded forwardly about the folding axis YY to lie in a vertical plane. The forward transverse frame member 22 of the centre section 12 may be hinged to a pair of side sections 14, 16 by a universal hinge 34 including a clevis member 40, a hinge pin 42, a ball (44) Fig. 3 (not shown) and a rocket member 46 inclined to frame member 28 so as to lie in a plane perpendicular to the folding axis YY. The hinge 36 between rear frame members 24 and 30 can be locked, when the sections have been folded, by inserting a locking pin 56 into the aperture 54. Alternatively, the pin may be inserted into the apertured ears 58 to deactivate the folding hinge 38, which is positioned above the plane of the centre section 12, when the implement is operating. A hydraulic ram 88 acts via lever 82 and rods 84 to cause the centre section 12 to pivot about a hitch member 70, thereby tilting the section to allow the side sections to be folded forwardly and secured by brackets 102. The centre section 12 may be supported on ground wheels 90 and the side sections may have ground wheels 94 and tension rods 98 to relieve the strain on the hinges during earth working. |
