Overload protection for the bearings (2') of continuous casting rollers (1') has lower packages (5') of packing plates under the bearing housings (3') at the roller ends on the supporting cross beams (4') of a segment base frame. The packing plates are aligned exactly with each other at the bearing support points. A safety unit (6) is inserted additionally between the bearing housings and the cross beams, and is of a material and shape that is irreversibly distorted on a maximum permissible load at roller bearings.
