The method involves evaluating the gradient of a wire (5) fed around the rotary part (1) in at least one partial circular arc, which varies with the rotary motion. A sensor (12) determines the angle of the wire with respect to a reference plane containing the sensor as a measure of the rotation angle of the rotary part. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for determining the angular position of a rotating rotary part.
