PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material web and its handling device that do not require any sprocket type drive device or a sprocket hall formed in the web corresponding to it in order to feed the web through the device and keep the web in a suitable alignment. SOLUTION: The web 12 and a web feeding/handling device for performing machining work on the web are disclosed. The device feeds the web vertically in the feeding direction with a friction-type drive device means. An operation of the drive device is controller by transverse and longitudinal alignment indicia disposed on the web, adequate alignment of the web is secured in the feeding direction when the web is first supplied to the device and fed through the device, and any bowing of the web during the work operation is certainly corrected or compensated.
