PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaping method for a spherical form grinding tool capable of producing lens steadily and an outer circumference protecting jig for the form grinding tool to be used for carrying out the shaping method by improving the conventional shaping method for the form grinding tool having protruding spherical shape. SOLUTION: When shaping the (form) grinding tool 1 having protruding spherical shape by rubbing a joint tray 2 together, the outer circumference protecting jig 4 is adjusted in a position for being mounted on a base tray 3 of the grinding tool 1 such that a clearance (c) is secured between an inner edge 2a of the joint tray 2 and outer circumference of the grinding tool 1 when rubbing the joint tray 2 together for oscillating. Then, the protruding spherical shape of the grinding tool 1 is shaped by rubbing the joint tray 2 together. Thereby, the inner edge 2a of the joint tray 2 is prevented from coming into contact with the outer circumference of the grinding tool 1 to keep outer diameter of the grinding tool 1 constant accordingly to realize processing lens steadily by the form grinding tool 1 thus shaped.
