PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air damper including a housing having a cylindrical wall, and a piston assembly reciprocating within the housing. SOLUTION: The piston assembly includes an inner surface against which a seal abuts. The inner surface has a particle pattern texture, and as a result, a gap is formed between the seal and the inner surface, and thereby, an air passage for effective damping is formed. A cylindrical spacer spaces the inner surface from a holder, the seal is engaged between the holder and the inner surface around the cylindrical spacer. As an alternate embodiment, a fiber material is inserted into a damping orifice in order to vary the damping rate.
