PURPOSE: A constant velocity universal joint is provided to reduce the induced thrust and sliding resistance of the constant velocity universal joint. CONSTITUTION: A constant velocity universal joint is equipped with an external joint member(10) provided with three track grooves(12) having roller guide surfaces(14) arranged facing one another in the circumferential direction, a tripod member(20) furnished with three legs(22) protruding in the radial direction, rollers(34) inserted in the track grooves(12), and rings(32) fitted on the legs(22) for supporting the rollers(34) rotatably, and is arranged so that the rollers(34) are movable in the axial direction of the external joint member(10) along the guide surfaces(14), wherein the inside surface of each ring(32) is shaped cylindrically while the peripheral surface of each leg(22) is given a longitudinal cross-section in curved shape and such a crosswise section contacting with the inside surface of the ring(32) in the direction perpendicularly intersecting the axis of the joint and forming a gap with respect to the peripheral surface of the ring(32) in the axial direction of the joint.
