Epoxy alkanoyl derivatives of the general formula wherein R is a C 2-6 alkanoyl group, e.g. acetyl, are prepared by epoxidizing a compound of the formula respectively with an organic per-acid. The peracid may be a C 1-6 alkanoic acid or a C 7-17 aromatic acid e.g. peracetic acid. 3,7 - Dimethyl - 6,7 - epoxy - 2 - eaten - 1 - al is obtained from the compounds of the invention by saponification with, for example, sodium bicarbonate.</p> |
