PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium improved remarkably in electromagnetic transducing characteristic, particularly in high density recording characteristic, excellent in durability and decreased remarkably in error rate particularly in a high density recording region. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer, which is formed by dispersing ferromagnetic metal powder in a binder, on a support for recording a signal having 0.013-0.5 Gbit/cm2 (0.08-3 Gbit/inch2) surface recording density. The antimagnetic force of the magnetic layer is (1.43-2.86)×105 A/m. The ferromagnetic metal powder is constituted of at least Fe and Co under such a condition that the atomic ratio A shown by Al/(Fe+Co) is 3.0-10.0%, the atomic ratio B shown by (the sum total of rare-earth elements)/(Fe+Co) is 3.0-15.0% and (the atomic ratio B)/(the atomic ratio A) being (the sum total of rare-earth elements)/Al is 1.3-2.0. |
