PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce flicker and crosstalk in gradation display of a liquid crystal display device, and further, to reduce charge and discharge power. SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal display device wherein gradation display is performed by a frame modulation system for controlling turn-on/turn-off of prescribed dots in each frame by defining the prescribed number of frames as one display unit correspondingly to gradation data of N (N>=3), N-pieces of continuing frames set to respectively different periods are defined as one period; 2N kinds of turn-on patterns consisting of the combination of turn-on and turn-off dots in the N-pieces of frames each and the intensity level data of N-bits are made to correspond one-to-one and thereby the turn-on pattern is selected according to the intensity level data of the prescribed dots to control turn-on and turn-off; the respectively different n-kinds of periods of the N-pieces of frames are set so that each ratio of the total turn-on times of the N-pieces of frames to a total turn-off time differs from each other; and further, a longest period frame is set not longer than 3 times a shortest period frame.
