PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device that can maintain image quality that stands up to print applications and store image data with a decreased size and to provide a storage medium that stores its data processing program. SOLUTION: In a form of the 1st embodiment, a CPU 2 divides image data into an article part and a background part through image compression processing executed by the CPU 2, compresses them at different compression rates, and stores their relation of positions and image formats as an image files with compressed image data. Furthermore, in the compression processing of the background part, a color histogram is used to make a background color single and the background part is compressed while the gradation is degraded. Moreover, the CPU 2 conducts image expansion processing to respectively expand the background part and the article part according to the image format stored in the image file and pastes the article part to the background part on the basis of the stored relation of positions to decode the entire image.
