PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type color liquid crystal device which can display brighter and sharper colors than a conventional device by using a liquid crystal mode which uses a polarizing plate. SOLUTION: Color filters 807 and counter electrodes (scanning lines) 808 are formed on a counter substrate 802, and an upper polarizing plate 801 is disposed in the observation side. Signal lines 809, pixel electrodes 810 and MIM elements 811 are formed on a device substrate 804, and a lower polarizing plate 805 and a scattering and reflecting plate 806 are disposed under the substrate 804. The space between the substrates is filled with a nematic liquid crystal 803 having 90 deg. twist angle. As for the color filters 807, red filters R, green filters G and blue filters B are used and at least one kind of the color filters shows >=50% transmissivity for the light in the wavelength range from 450 to 660 nm. |
