PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin observation device of an optical system which allows the simple observation of the keratin shape of the skin with good contrast. SOLUTION: This device includes a plastic casing 18 made of plastic having a hollow structure and is formed to a small-sized cylindrical shape slightly curved to the extent of allowing holding with the single hand. The illumination light from a light source section 16 for illumination is reflected by a curved reflection mirror 15 and diagonally illuminates the skin which is a subject 7 from an aperture 18b of the casing 18. The high-contrast video output image of the skin hillocks and skin channels of the keratine are obtained by an imaging lens 9 fixed in a reflection angle direction and a diagonally installed solid- stage image pickup element 11. The light source section 16 for illumination has an optical path switching lever 17 and makes it possible to easily obtain the ordinary observation image as well.
