PURPOSE:To prepare a catalyst of high activity by incorporating copper, cobalt and zinc or copper, nickel and lanthanum. CONSTITUTION:Precipitates are separated by mixing a mixed solution of water soluble salt of copper, water soluble salt of cobalt and water soluble salt of zine, or a mixed solution of water soluble salt of copper, water soluble salt of nickel and water soluble salt of lanthanum, and water solution of precipitating agent (for example, sodium carbonate, caustic soda or the like). The same is aged at the temperature of 50-90 deg.C and pH8-11 for 1-10hr. Then, after being washed with water, the coprecipitations are dried at drying temperature of 100-120 deg.C for 5-10hr. Then, the same are calcined at a temperature of 300-600 deg.C for 1-10hr, and a precursor is prepared by mixing graphite with the calcined substance and pressurizing molding. By said process, the selection characteristics of carbon monoxide and hydrogen are enhanced.
