PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dial for an instrument which has a display part where its machining pattern does not appear or is made inconspicuous when the entire top surface is processed in hairlines or other patterns. SOLUTION: A display part (4) for characters, a scale, symbol marks, etc., is formed of a display layer (11) and a character-void layer (12) formed above the display layer and hairline machining or other pattern machining is performed from the top surface side of the character-void layer (11) to give decorative effect, thus constituting the dial (10) for an instrument. At the position where at least the display part (4) is formed on the display layer (11), a light- transmission layer (6) is provided which is formed of a harder material than the display layer (11).
