PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet filter, that can handle a long filter condition and a complicated filter condition with a simple configuration and is capable of high-speed processing. SOLUTION: This packet filter, having a function that selectively passes a received packet according to the filter condition such as an address and a protocol, is provided with a memory 104 that stores the filter condition separately at a plurality of addresses. Then a circuit that reads the filter condition stored in the memory 104 at the same speed as the packet input speed, compares the split part of the read filter condition with the split part of the packet which its comparison object and the circuit causes passes a packet, all of whose division parts agree with the filter condition to be realized by hardware.
