PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic mail system having a mechanism for making conspicuous an important message or notification out of many electronic mail to be exchanged. SOLUTION: Concerning this electronic mail system, an important message display region is separately provided for displaying an important message in addition to conventional mail list display region and mail content display region, a mail header is provided with a special extended field for distinguishing the important message and ordinary electronic mail and control based on this header information is performed. In this extended field, the display period or validity of the important message can be described and precise display control is enabled.
