Detectors (6,7) detect power for charging a battery (1) that supplies power to motor (2), and power extracted from battery to operate the motor. Based on preset parameter, driving mode of vehicle is distinguished by a discriminator (11) and a detector output is chosen. Based on chosen result, the power extracted from battery is controlled by motor control sections (3,15). A gain switching section (14) switches the gain that stipulates the variation rate of the motor torque at the time of control of supply to motor, based on the discrimination of driving mode of vehicle by driving mode discriminator (11).
