A device for imaging a sample on a sample carrier has a sample carrier holder (12) and an image-recording device (1) for recording a plurality of images, each representing a partial area of the sample. The sample carrier holder (12) is rotatable at least one turn abut a first axis. Furthermore, the relative position of the image-recording device (1) and the sample carrier holder (12) is adjustable so that the image-recording device can be caused to assume different positions along a radius to the first axis, thereby enabling imaging of the whole sample by recording images in circles with different radii. A method of imaging a sample is also described.
