<p>There is described a cellular communications network using macrodiversity, for example a CDMA network, and a method of operation thereof, which allow a network operator to influence movements of a mobile station within the radio environment. Cells are considered in groups. When a handover is contemplated, the system takes into account the groups which include the cells to which radio links are already established and the group which includes the cell to which the establishment of a new radio link is contemplated. A candidate cell, which is in a different group from all existing cells to which radio links are already established, must meet a higher quality threshold than if it is in a group to which a radio link is already established, before a link to it is established.</p> |
