<p>A method for paging a mobile station (MS) through a wireless communications network. The wireless communications network includes at least a first location area (LA) and a second LA, wherein each of the LA's includes a plurality of cells. In an exemplary embodiment, the method includes the steps of: (1) transmitting a first paging signal within the first LA; and (2) if the MS fails to answer the first paging signal, transmitting a second paging signal within the first LA and within a portion of the second LA consisting of cells contiguous to the first LA. In a related embodiment, if the MS fails to answer the second paging signal, the method further includes the step of transmitting a third paging signal within the first LA, within the portion of the second LA consisting of cells contiguous to the first LA, and within a second portion of the second LA consisting of cells contiguous to the cells contiguous to the first LA. Additional MS paging signals, if necessary, can be transmitted within additional cells outwardly expanding from the first LA.</p> |
