The brush or broom making machine has a stuffing tool (1) for stuffing the bristles (2) into a mounting. A striker (3) strikes the bundles of bristles from the side and removes them from the tool. The drive system (6) moves the striker through a curved path (14a) passing through the position of the tool and on a return path (14b) which does not pass through the area of the tool while bristles are being stuffed in the mounting.
