PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method characterized by using a fibrous material prepared by utilizing a powdered ion exchange resin obtained by crushing a granular ion exchange resin as a supporting material (a soil substitute) for the roots of a plant, as an effective utilization of a resource, capable of not only providing an excellent soil substitute for culturing horticultural plants but also giving a large effect of use especially applying it to the culture of a decorative under water sinking plant (a water plant), and it becomes possible to culture the plants easily and expand the hobby world centering around the horticultural plants and an aquarium by utilizing the above culturing method or its device. SOLUTION: This method for culturing a plant is provided by using a soil substitute for culturing plant characterized by utilizing the powdered ion exchange resin. The method is devised for capable of exhibiting not only an effect as a cleaning and filtering material, but also an effect as a soil substitute for culturing the water plants.
