ESCALATOR HAVING STEP WITH DRIVE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an escalator capable of coping with an increase in lift. SOLUTION: All or some of individual steps 1 connected to a drive chain 17 each have a drive 2 and can self-travel. An electric motor is best suited as the drive 2, with its output shaft or deceleration shaft 3 capable of operating in conjunction with the front axle 6 and/or rear axle 7 of the step 1. Pinions 13 and 14 are coaxially coupled respectively to the front axle 6 and/or rear axle 7 of the step 1 and are brought into mesh with racks 15 and 16 fixed to a machine frame 24. A feeding rail 23 fixed to the machine frame 24 of the escalator and a current collector 22 making sliding contact therewith are used to feed electricity to the electric motor 2. A handrail 29 is rotated in conjunction with the drive chain 17.
