PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance control quality by enabling highly accurate control giving no sense of incompatibility to a driver, in an automatic braking control on a slope. SOLUTION: This vehicle control device is equipped with a control device 3 structure so that it can automatically produce braking force, a vehicle speed sensor S2 and a front and back G sensor S8, an AT position sensor S5, and a control unit 4 to execute a stop time control to control the actuation of the braking device 3, at vehicle stop, based on inputs from these means of detection and based on the detected result of a shift range and the detected result of a road grade. When executing the stop time control, based on the detected road grade and shift range, the control unit 4 applies an automatic braking so as not to move the vehicle to the opposite direction to its traveling direction, on the road grade where the self-weight of the vehicle works toward the opposite direction to its travelling direction, and does not apply the automatic braking on the road grade where the self-weight of the vehicle works toward its traveling direction.
