PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cyclohexene derivative which is a liquid crystal material having a high NI point and a high anisotropy (Δε) of permittivity and a lowΔn and a low viscosity. SOLUTION: This cyclohexene derivative is represented by the following general formula (1), wherein R denotes hydrogen atom or a 1-10C alkyl group; X denotes cyano group or fluorine atom; and Y and Z denote each independently hydrogen atom or fluorine atom.
