PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably show base isolation effect in the initial stage of an earthquake, to have superior durability, to stably show a low friction coefficient for a long time, and to have extremely low bearing dependence. SOLUTION: This sliding base isolator is provided with a sliding support 3 in which a sliding material 5 and a smoothing plate 4 are arranged in contact with their respective sliding faces mutually between a lower skeleton 1 and an upper skeleton 2. The sliding material is composed of tetrafluoroethylene resin composite material formed by sticking a metal plate 6 to the rear face of the slide contact face, the sliding material is provided with a lubricant feed hole 5a in the slide contact face, and a lubricant sump 6a is provided in a boundary part between the metal plate and the sliding material in such a state as communicating with the lubricant feed hole.
