<p>Catalyst for homo- or co-polymerising olefins and conjugated dienes comprises a hydrocarbon-soluble solid addition product of a Ti halide (I) and a Lewis base (II) with an org. Al compd. (III). Typical examples of I are TiCl3, TiCl2, TiBr3, TiBr2 and co-crystallised TiCl3 whilst typical II are methyl-substd. tetrahydrofurans and tetrahydrothiophenes. III are generally alkyl Al halides. Use of this addn. solid enables a soluble TiCl3 based catalyst to be obtd. thus giving good polymer yields.</p> |
