PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new fluorescent nucleotide useful for labeling a nucleic acid. SOLUTION: This fluorescent nucleotide is represented by the formula A-B-C, wherein, A is a residue of a natural or synthetic nucleotide, an oligonucleotide, a polynucleotide or a derivative thereof, and linked to B with the base part in the residue; B is a divalent linking group or a single bond; and C is a monovalent group derived from the general formula (I) and linked to B with a reactive group present in R1 or R2.
