PURPOSE: A method for inputting a number in a character input mode of a mobile communication terminal is provided to facilitate inputting a number in a character input mode by driving a timer when a number key is inputted and inputting a number corresponding to the number key if the number key is continuously depressed for a predetermined time. CONSTITUTION: A controller determines whether it is in a character input mode(311). If it is determined to be the character input mode, the controller is in an input standby state(313). When a key inputted from a key input unit(315), the controller drives a timer(317). The controller determines whether the same key is kept depressing for a predetermined time by the key input unit(319). If the same key is continuously depressed, the controller stops driving of the timer(321). The controller recognizes that a number corresponding to the inputted number key is inputted and displays the corresponding number on a display unit(323). If the same key is not continuously depressed for a predetermined time, the controller stops driving of the timer(325). The controller recognizes that a character corresponding to the inputted number key is inputted and displays a corresponding character on a display unit(327).
