PURPOSE: To provide a variable displacement type compressor capable of normally controlling a discharge displacement intended for stable maintenance of a room temperature and also speedily lowering the discharge displacement for emergency evacuation in an emergency. CONSTITUTION: The movable spool 54 of a control valve positions a valve body part 43 by sensing a pressure difference between the discharge pressure Pd and the suction pressure Ps of a compressor, adjusts a cranking pressure Pc, and controls the discharge displacement of the compressor as well. A set pressure difference serving as a target for adjustment of a valve position is variably set by controlling the electromagnetic energizing force of an actuator 100 to change the set pressure difference based on an outside information. The discharge displacement is controlled based on the detected pressure difference between Pd and Ps as long as the set pressure difference has no change, and the discharge displacement however can be speedily lowered by setting the pressure difference at the minimum level in an emergency.
