PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for driving heater of microwave oven are provided to protect the heater by using the air gap relay of the triac as the safety switch under the normal operation conditions. CONSTITUTION: A fuse(10) gets cutoff when an abnormal voltage is given. The first relay(60) turns on/off according to the apply of current through the fuse(10). The second relay(70) turns on/off according to the status of on/off of the first relay(60). A micom(50) outputs a control signal according to the heating pattern of the food. A triac(30) flows current corresponding to the on/off of the first relay(60) and the control signal from the micom(50). A heater(20) emits heat corresponding to the status of the triac(30).
