The method comprises the steps of, assembling a number of rotor modules each including at least one sector. The next step includes forming a number of diaphragm assemblies each including an independent radially extending diaphragm plate and device adapted to mount the independent diaphragm plate on the rotor hub. The next step includes forming a number of separate support gratings adapted to be mounted in the rotor sectors and adapted to support the modular heat transfer baskets on it. The next step is mounting the number of rotor modules on the rotor hub at spaced intervals, and mounting one of the number of diaphragm assemblies on the rotor hub in each of the intervals between the spaced rotor modules thereby forming sector spaces on each side of each of the diaphragm assemblies and between the diaphragm assemblies and the adjacent the rotor module adjacent rotor modules. The final step is mounting at least one of the number of separate support gratings in each of the sector spaces between the diaphragm assemblies and the adjacent rotor module.
