The tone improvement for a clarinet with the German system affects C sharp over B trill production and involves operation of the B stem valve (4) with the C valve (5) remaining open, with only the C sharp valve (2) closed and the B valve (3) remaining open. With the downwardly preessed B stem valve, the closure of the C valve also leads simultaneously to the closure of the B valve. A direct connection between the B stem valve and the upper part (13) of the B valve does not occur and a rotatable lever (11) with its end (12) lifts the upper part of the B valve.
