Radial gap monitoring method especially for radial gap between rotor and stator of electric generator

A method of monitoring the radial gap (10) between the rotor (6) and the stator (8) of an electrical generator (2), during which during a stationary and balanced operating state of the generator (2) a measurement cycle is carried out in fixed time intervals. During the measurement cycle, relevant measurement data (100) of the radial gap (10) and relevant marginal values (50) of the generator (2) are ascertained. By comparing relevant parameters (120) of the radial gap (10) with reference values from a number of basic measurements, the shape of the radial gap (10) can be determined and evaluated and the spacing between the rotor (6) and the stator (8) is then found.
